6 Reasons Brainard Lake Is the Perfect Engagement Location — From Your Brainard Lake Photographer

Whether you’re thinking about scheduling a photography session while visiting Colorado on a family vacation, or you’re a Colorado native wanting to capture your engagement/elopement photos in a stunning mountain location, Brainard Lake one of the best places that you can choose for stunning photos!  Here are 6 reasons why I would choose to plan a session at Brainard Lake.

As a Brainard Lake photographer, let me tell you, this location is amazing!  The beautiful alpine lake, surrounded by mountains on the west side, is the perfect backdrop for any type of photography, especially if you’re planning a golden hour/evening session.  It’s particularly nice in the warm summer months when an escape to the mountains feels like sweet relief from the heat!  I’ve photographed sessions at many locations between Boulder and Estes Park, and Brainard Lake makes the top of my list of favorite mountain locations!

Variety of stunning backdrops!

Although the most well know vantage point from Brainard Lake boasts views of mountains like Mount Audubon & Pawnee Peak, Brainard Lake Recreation Area also has miles of wooded trails and creeks that offer a wide variety of backdrops to use for your photos!  The variation is especially nice for adventurous couples planning their engagement session.  The closeness of the evergreen forest provides an intimate feel which nicely contrasts the openness of the lake itself.

Proximity to Denver/DIA

While many of Colorado’s well known views are located in Rocky Mountain National Park or on the I-70 corridor,  Brainard Lake is nestled in between these part of Colorado.  The route doesn’t typically experience heavy traffic, perhaps due to the fact that there isn’t a large town nearby, but it’s only 2 hours from the Denver airport.

Less crowded than many of the popular locations

Brainard Lake doesn’t experience heavy tourist traffic like RMNP, Estes Park, Vail, or other mountain towns, but it’s just as beautiful as these well known locations.  Getting genuine smiles with a constant stream of people walking past is challenging, and choosing a less busy location helps ease that awkwardness.

Easy Accessibility

With a paved path/road that fully encircles the lake, Brainard Lake offers easy access to those with limited mobility.  The parking lot is located near the side of the lake that offers the most stunning view, and the path that leads to the lake is paved, making it easy to access even with a wheelchair or stroller

No permit needed!

Due to a recent change you do not need a permit for photography at Brainard Lake.  Unlike the Rocky Mountain National Park permit, which is pricey and must be acquired well in advance, we can plan a Brainard Lake photography session quickly!  Although a timed entry pass is still required the cost is low, and you unlike the RMNP pass reservations are often available at the last minute, even the day of your session, but if you’re planning a session for a weekend date in the summer you may want to reserve your entry permit farther out.

If you’re looking for one of the most beautiful locations in Colorado for photography, you must consider Brainard Lake!  Whether you’re planning a family session, your (once in a lifetime!) engagement session, or even a small wedding/elopement, Brainard Lake is one of my all time favorite photography locations in Colorado, and it’s one of the most convenient and easy to access as well.
